Clean energy in the Balearic Islands

The government of the Balearic Islands is clear in its desire to take a significant step towards renewable energy. Many recent developments point to growing social awareness of, and political support for renewable energy.

One such development is the increase in the registration of electric and hybrid vehicles in the Balearic Islands. Use of electric vehicles has risen by 166.6%, while the use of hybrids has risen by 16.8%. What’s more, public and private car parks in the Balearic Islands which are larger than 1,000 m² will need to have solar panels by 2025.

This is one of the new measures being considered for the new climate change law the government is planning to implement with the aim to progress the transition towards an energy model based on renewable energies.

Additionally, the car parks will need to install photovoltaic panels on their roofs by 2050. This measure will apply to both public and private car parks.
