Joan Miró: the first non-Scandinavian artist whose image will adorn aircraft from Norwegian Airlines

The Catalan artist Joan Miró will appear on the tail of two Norwegian Airlines aircraft, along with 104 other prominent figures from the worlds of arts, sciences and history from nine countries. Miró was chosen because he is "one of the greatest exponents of art of the twentieth century".

One of the aircraft to be decorated with the artist will cover the company’s intercontinental routes from February. The second plane that will feature Miró on its tail will fly shorter routes from spring of this year.

Miró and Mallorca

It is worth remembering that in 1956 this great artist decided to live and create in Mallorca, in the special workshop designed for him by the architect Josep Lluis Sert.

In Mallorca, Miró was able to enjoy and be inspired by the serenity and beauty of the Mediterranean light. He had one of his most fertile periods here and made many friends on the island who remember him to this day.

In 2017, the documentary JOAN MIRÓ, MAYTE SPÍNOLA AND MALLORCA was presented. It is an extraordinary eyewitness testimonial concerning one of the most influential artists and patrons in the recent history of Spain.

The documentary features the painter and director Julio Mendoza, who appears on screen and also as a commentator and narrator.
